The few times actually have wars, i liked the system of Anno 1503 more then most of the modern Annos, but like i said, i dont really care for military in a funtional sense. To students of sixteenth-century music the Florentine man of letters Cosimo Bartoli (150372) is known chiefly for two statements made in the third dialogue. Im not a military player in Anno, but i build tons of them in Anno 1503 as they can be really nice to decorate your cities. At this point i want to like the military units.

And yes, its sometimes hard to keep track of your service stands in bigger cities, as its hard to know if every house can reach all of the stands it needs. Yes, one tile buildings can be annoying to plan in, but with the higher amount of them, you can get that sorted out.
